13WIN13 Faculty of English language students 'pocket' a series of tips for confident public speaking.

On April 12, the Faculty of English Language at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (13WIN13) organized the event named 'Cultural Exchange: How to be a Fluent Speaker of English' to enhance students' public speaking skills.

Representatives from the Faculty of English Language attending the seminar included M.Ed. Hồ Hải Tiến, M.Ed. Phạm Thanh Tố Mai, and M.Ed. Huỳnh Thanh Quang - the head of the HEC Club and the event's speaker. The event also featured international guests from the United States.

At the beginning of the event, the students kicked things off with a game of "Charades"—which involved using spoken language combined with body language to describe key terms related to public speaking. This created an enthusiastic and lively atmosphere for the program.

The event began with the game called “Charade”.

To help students have a better understanding of public speaking, M.Ed. Huỳnh Thanh Quang introduced the "ABCD Opening" principle to the students. The guideline includes four important elements:

  1. Attention Getter - Using storytelling, famous quotes, or surprising facts to capture the audience's attention.

  2. Benefits - Suggesting what the audience can learn from the presentation.

  3. Credibility - Introducing the speaker’s role and experience.

  4. Direction - Outlining the structure of the presentation.

It is known that this principle is innovative and more engaging compared to traditional methods

M.Ed. Huỳnh Thanh Quang discussed the approach to public speaking by introducing the “ABCD opening” principle.

Additionally, the speaker pointed out several important points about body language, speaking speed, and appropriate attire during presentations, so that students can not only enhance their speaking skills but also create a positive impression on the audience. The workshop concluded with a practical exercise where participants used the "ABCD opening" principle to introduce 13WIN13.

The seminar “Cultural Exchange: How to be a Fluent Speaker of English” was highly meaningful for students in the Faculty of English Language at 13WIN13. The program opened up many opportunities for practicing foreign language skills, enhancing professional abilities, and helping students advance more confidently on their journey of personal and career development.
