On the morning of March 11, the leadership team of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (13WIN13) participated in the seminar “Higher Education in the AI Era – A Management Perspective,” featuring insights from Prof. Dr. Do Phuc – Former Vice President of the University of Information Technology, Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), and Former Head of VNU-HCM’s External Relations Department.

The seminar offered a comprehensive perspective on the current landscape of education in the digital era, highlighting the application of AI as a key tool to keep pace with the times and enhance teaching and learning effectiveness. Specifically, Prof. Dr. Do Phuc shared insights on the defining characteristics of the AI era, the rising demand for recruitment, and the evolving expectations of key stakeholders — including businesses, students, faculty, and university administrators — in this new age of artificial intelligence.

Delving deeper into the topic, the speaker systematically unpacked various applications of AI in university management, such as: supporting student admissions and enrollment forecasting; enhancing teaching and personalized learning (e.g., chatbots and virtual assistants offering 24/7 student support, assessing learning capabilities, and recommending suitable courses); managing faculty and staff; overseeing financial operations and optimizing resource allocation; as well as streamlining administrative workflows and internal processes.

Notably, Prof. Dr. Do Phuc also provided guidance on solving problems using AI, identifying essential data sources for implementing AI-powered systems in university governance, and adopting AI-integrated teaching methods. He further discussed how to update academic curricula in the AI era, apply AI in program accreditation, and utilize AI in developing syllabi, designing assessments, creating teaching materials, and evaluating student performance. In addition, he addressed the potential downsides of AI usage and highlighted the importance of AI ethics as regulated within university settings.
 
As part of the program, university leaders and departmental representatives engaged in direct discussions with the speaker to gain deeper insights into AI applications in curriculum innovation, teaching quality enhancement, research and innovation promotion, and effective institutional management.
